DP World has come into a cooperation agreement with the German logistics provider Man Energy Solutions, aiming at common progress in the decarbonisation of the shipping industry.
Both parties will focus on green-fuels infrastructure, future-proof conversions, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), methanol and ammonia, hybrid drives, electric engines research & development (R&D) and training, as well as investigation of their respective and global footprints to further reduce the environmental impact of shipping traffic in terms of fuel consumption and emissions.
The contract agreement signed by the two companies is valid for five years with the potential to be extended thereafter.
“To achieve net-zero emissions, we must recognise the importance of taking urgent and immediate steps to decarbonise shipping and the way to do that is by identifying opportunities to forge partnerships with leading industry players and governments to develop solutions that will allow us to reap tangible results,” said Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, CEO of the Dubai-based port and terminal operator, DP World.
Furthermore, Chief Sales Officer of Man Energy Solutions, Wayne Jones OBE, who noted that the two companies have worked closely on many projects over the years, pointed out that “in the transition towards a carbon-neutral future, we aim to achieve sustainable value-creation by addressing the challenges inherent to the marine, energy and industrial sectors.”
