DP World Dakar achieves record box volumes

DP World has achieved a record container handling performance at the Port of Dakar, handling 76,282 TEU during March, which is the highest throughput in a single month since the UAE-based operator began operations in Senegal in 2008.

DP World has invested nearly US$300 million to upgrade and expand the Dakar Container Terminal since 2008. The company said these investments have increased the terminal’s productivity by 200% and have reduced vessel waiting times from an average of 35 hours to zero.

DP World’s investments in the Port of Dakar have made the terminal the best-performing in West Africa and one of the best on the continent, steadily increasing productivity from 265,000 TEUs per year in 2008 to 738,000 TEUs per year in 2022.

Clarence Rodrigues, CEO of DP World Dakar, commented, “This record performance in March is the result of excellent teamwork, detailed planning and execution, while at the same time ensuring the highest levels of safety and risk management.”
