Transportations and logistics company DSV has unveiled plans for a US$300,000 investment in a new logistics centre in Horsens, Denmark, which is expected to be the largest in Europe with just one leaseholder.
DSV is expecting to launch operation in August 2021, while the company aims to begin occupying facilities by the end of 2022 or beginning of 2023 when the cross-docking terminal, the office building and part of the warehouse facilities have been finalised.
“Construction work will continue for another 3 – 3½ years and our new logistics centre in Horsens is expected to be completed during 2026,” said DSV.
The centre will be located in Horsens because DSV said, the logistics facilities in and around the city of Horsens “can no longer accommodate the company’s present and future growth.” Simultaneously, the new logistics centre will support DSV’s willingness to consolidate its warehouse and cross-docking terminals in the Horsens area.
DSV aims to ensure increased efficiency and productivity, according to an announcement, combined with a greener profile and less CO2 emissions.
The new logistics centre will be built on the plot next to DSV’s present facilities in the Danish city and the building site will be approximately 700,000m2. The office will comprise 18,000m2 office space, the cross-docking terminal will occupy approximately 50,000m2 and the warehousing facilities will occupy between 200,000m2 and 269,000m2.
“We want to consolidate all our activities within Air & Sea, Road and Solutions in one location,” stated Simon Galsgaard, managing director for DSV Road A/S in Denmark, who described Horsens as a strategic hub for transports between the Nordics and the rest of Europe.
Galsgaard highlighted that this is the largest construction project of the company, while pointed out that it is part of DSV’s strategy to consolidate smaller sites and create larger, modern and future-proof facilities.
“The new logistics centre in Horsens will be characterised by a large degree of automated processes which ensure quick and efficient handling of large volumes,” added Galsgaard.
This is the largest sale of land for industrial purposes in the history of Horsens, according to the mayor of Horsens, Peter Sørensen, who said that the whole project is expected to generate more jobs both in the construction phase and after that when DSV will need more employees for its expanded facilities.
