DUBLIN, Ireland – With Storm Diana approaching, Ireland was hit by widespread rain and gales on Tuesday (Nov. 27), even as the country was placed under two weather warnings by the Irish national forecaster.
On Monday (Nov. 26), the Met Eireann issued two weather warnings in Ireland, with one Status Yellow rainfall warning in place in Munster, Dublin, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Galway and Mayo, while another wind warning was put in place across 16 counties.
With forecasters warning about up to 30mm of rain expected in some areas of the country, on Tuesday, Dublin, Dongegal, Leitrim and Sligo witnessed strong gusts of winds.
The strong winds forced the closure of the Dublin Port on Tuesday, which was closed to shipping early in the day, resulting in major traffic issues.
In a statement, Dublin Port Communications Manager Charlie Murphy said that there were a large number of trucks waiting to get into the port.
However, since the easterly winds were “blowing straight into the port,” they were forced to cease operations.
