On 22 July, HHLA TK Estonia welcomed Eco Maestro, the first container vessel powered by crude methanol, to the Estonian port of Muuga.
Eco Maestro, flying the Maltese flag, is owned by the Singaporean company X-Press Feeders.
Operating on the Green Finland X-PRESS (GFX) route, this vessel, operated by X-Press Feeders, began its journey from Rotterdam with stops in Antwerp, Kotka, Helsinki (Vuosaari), and docked at the Port of Muuga before returning to Rotterdam.
This marks the first instance of a methanol-powered ship arriving at Muuga.
Eco Maestro uses green methanol, a renewable fuel that reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 65% compared to traditional marine fuels. Green methanol is typically produced from biomass or captured CO2 emissions.
“X-Press Feeders started a regular service to our container terminal this spring, with the aim of transferring its fleet of methanol-powered vessels to the Baltic Sea. The Eco Maestro is the first of 14 ordered methanol vessels. We are delighted to have customers that follow a sustainability roadmap and share our ambitions for a greener logistics industry,” stated Riia Sillave, CEO of HHLA TK Estonia.
