EUROGATE orders hybrid port equipment from Konecranes

EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg has placed an order for 15 Hybrid Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers, booked at the end of 2024 and set for delivery by July 2026.

These next-generation carriers feature a modular design that simplifies power retrofits, enabling a seamless transition to battery-electric or hydrogen power and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Handling over 12 million TEUs annually across nine locations in Europe and Africa, EUROGATE has long trusted Konecranes, having deployed hundreds of their straddle carriers over the past 25 years.

The new straddle carriers are equipped for TIC 4.0, an industry-standard framework that enhances data transmission for operational insights and performance monitoring. The order aligns with Konecranes’ Ecolifting initiative, which focuses on reducing environmental impact by offering eco-optimized diesel, hybrid, and fully electrified solutions.

Konecranes continues to lead in material handling with a strong commitment to digitalization, efficiency, and sustainability—developing solutions that advance decarbonization, circularity, and safety in logistics operations.

“The flexibility to make powertrain upgrades makes this a future-proof investment. Konecranes is helping us to move towards CO2-neutral operations while continuing to deliver the high operational efficiency we are known for,” commented Johannes Stelten, Managing Director of EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg.

“The new, modular design of Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers opens a new era in container handling by combining modular flexibility with sustainable performance. It’s appropriate that EUROGATE – one of our most loyal customers – has taken this step towards the future of eco-efficient container handling,” stated Peter Kania, Sales Director, Straddle Carrier business unit, Konecranes.
