Two of the largest container lines in the world have decided to raise their prices into and out of the Mediterranean in the next month.
[s2If is_user_logged_in()]In particular, CMA CGM has announced increased freight of all kinds (FAK) rates from the Indian Subcontinent to North Europe and the Mediterranean, for cargo moving on the carrier’s direct services, effective from 1 March.

Additionally, the French shipping group will increase their rates from the Mediterranean, including East Med, West Med, Adriatic, North Africa and Black Sea, to East Africa from 5 March.

Furthermore, Hapag-Lloyd will apply a new peak season surcharge (PSS) on all special cargo and refrigerated containers on the westbound trade from the Mediterranean to Canada and Mexico, effective from 1 March, as follows:
Mediterranean, excluding Italy, to Canada and Mexico: US$250/TEU
Italy to Canada and Mexico: US$300/TEU
On the same date, the German carrier will implement a PSS of US$250/TEU on all dry cargo from the Med to the same destinations.
Moreover, Hapag-Lloyd will introduce another PSS of US$150/TEU for all cargo from Albania, Algeria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Georgia, Croatia, Israel, Lebanon, Lybia, Morocco, Montenegro, Malta, Romania, Slovenia, Syria, Tunisia, Ukraine, Novorossiysk, Russia to the West Coast South America as well as to Central America and the Caribbean, effective from 1 March. The surcharge will launch on 16 March for Puerto Rico, Colombia and Ecuador destinations.
Last but not least, the Hamburg-based line has announced a new PSS from the Mediterranean to the US, which will take effect from Mid-March. For all dry, special and reefer cargo, the surcharge will be US$250/TEU, except the Italy-US route, which will have a PSS of US$300 for the refrigerated boxes.
