CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd, two of the largest shipping companies, have decided to implement new Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) in Europe.
First of all, the Marseille-based shipping group, CMA CGM will introduce a couple of PSS from North Europe, Scandinavia and Poland for all the types of containers. The new PSS, which will come into effect from 1 August, will be €150 (US$178) per TEU for Colombia and Dominican Republic destinations and €200 (US$237) per TEU for the West Coast of South America and Mexico West Coast destinations.
Additionally, the German shipping carrier, Hapag-Lloyd will apply a PSS of US$500 per TEU and US$1,000 per FEU from the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent to North Europe, while it will also introduce a PSS of US$500 per all units from the same origins to the Mediterranean ports.
