Ever Forward still stuck in Chesapeake Bay; second refloat attempt expected in the next hours

Ever Forward remains stuck in the Chesapeake Bay in the United States since 13 March, while the first attempt to refloat the vessel failed yesterday (29 March).

Although five tugboats were working for more than five hours to free the 334-metre container ship, Ever Forward remained stuck.

The United States Coast Guard said it would again try to rescue the Ever Forward today (30 March), when the tide will be higher.

In its latest update, cargo claims specialist WK Webster said that two dredgers are continuing to assist the refloating operation and a number of tugs are in close attendance to the vessel.

WK Webster added, “Shipowners have not yet formally declared General Average (GA), but if GA is declared General Average security will be required from all cargo interests prior to the delivery of their cargo.”
