Fast Lines Belgium, an Antwerp family-owned transport company, has signed a deal with Damen Shipyards for the delivery of two Combi Freighters 3850 vessels flying the Belgian flag.
Prior to placing its order with Damen, Fast’s ship management investigated all possible opportunities for achieving low emissions in an inexpensive manner.
This involved investigating alternate biofuels as well as the most recent design and efficiency advancements. Along with the innovative hull design and an efficient and economical main engine, the vessels will be outfitted with Daman’s Triton Remote monitoring system, which will provide real-time data on fuel usage and carbon emissions to both the shore-side team and the ships’ crew.
“These will be our first new-build vessels and we are confident that the Damen CF 3850 vessels will fit like a glove in Fast Lines Belgium’s business,” stated Catrien Scheers, managing director of Fast Lines Belgium.
Scheers added, “Not only are they economical and efficient, but our customers will also be able to see for themselves just how low their fuel consumption and therefore their emissions are. This will give us a valuable commercial advantage.”
Fast Lines Belgium saw the CF 3850 as the ideal choice for navigating the energy transition crossroads. In the short sea freight vessel market, the CF 3850 has the lowest EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index).
