A 45-year-old worker passed away at Pier II of the Piraeus Container Terminal in Greece after he was fatally hit by a container crane.
According to national media, the employee had just finished his shift and returned to pick up some personal items from the spot. After the accident, he was transferred to a hospital in Nikaia, Piraeus, where doctors confirmed his death.
Greece’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has launched an investigation to find what has caused the fatal accident. Government officials went to the scene of the accident to perform an autopsy, while the investigation processes will continue.
“The Management of PPA S.A. is deeply saddened by the loss of Dimitri Dagkli on Monday, 25 October 2021, employee of DPORT Services at the Pier II in Piraeus Container Terminal S.A, and expresses its sincere condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased,” said the Piraeus Port Authority in an announcement.
