A fire broke out in the engine room of the 1,600TEU Zhong Gu Tai Shan on 19 June, according to Maritime Bulletin’s report.
There were 22 crew members on board with 14 seafarers being evacuated and the remaining eight remaining on board.
The feeder boxship was in Shanghai waters at the time of the fire incident sailing from the port of Nakhodka in Russia to the port of Shanghai in China.
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) of Shanghai sent search and rescue (SAR) ships to tow Zhong Gu Tai Shan to a safer place, where the Panama-flagged vessel anchored not affecting the traffic in the area.
The fire is reported to be under control, while Zhong Gu Tai Shan remains anchored at the time of writing, according to MarineTraffic data.
