The Port of Montreal has received for the first time in history a container ship straight from China, without cargo transhipment in the Mediterranean.
Chartered by freight forwarder Fracht FWO, Happy Rover arrived on 14 November at Racine Terminal which is operated by Montreal Gateways Terminal Partnership (MGTP), to unload its containers.
The Canadian port said the direct, non-stop link between Asia and Montreal provides an optimal solution in terms of supply chain fluidity and efficiency, driven by the Canadian Port’s intermodal network which is directly connected to the rail and road networks.
“The first direct shipping link, without transhipment, between Asia and the Port of Montreal, demonstrates the fluidity of trade and the availability of our facilities in Montreal,” stated Guillaume Brossard, Vice President for Growth and Development at the Montreal Port Authority.
