First boxships docks in HHLA Terminal Trieste

For the first time, a container ship has called the new Italian multi-purpose Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) terminal “Piattaforma Logistica Trieste” (PLT).

OPS Hamburg at HHLA PLT

Freighted and operated by CMA CGM, the 1,118TEU OPS Hamburg, which is deployed on the French carrier’s weekly Turkey Med Express 3 (TMX3) service connecting Turkey with the Adriatic, was the first boxship to call HHLA PLT.

Antonio Barbara, Managing Director of HHLA PLT, noted that the feeder ship inaugurates a new regular service, the TMX3, which is an important step for the Italian terminal and he thanked CMA CGM for choosing PLT Italy.

Barbara also pointed out that the name of the ship is a good omen, “reminding of the connection between Trieste and our majority shareholder HHLA in Hamburg.”

Owned by the Hamburg-based terminal operator, HHLA PLT is part of the Italian seaport of Trieste that is not only connected to Central and Eastern Europe but also offers connections to the Baltic region.

Hence, PLT is going to use this strategic position to strengthen environmentally-friendly rail transport with the European hinterland, according to a statement.
