First PoC combines paperless Cargo Release and eBL on GSBN with COSCO and Qingdao Port

Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN), an independent non-profit technology consortium, announced the completion of a groundbreaking proof-of-concept (POC) with COSCO Shipping Specialised Carriers, seamlessly connecting the electronic Bill of Lading (eBL) to the cargo release process at Qingdao Port International Ltd in China.

COSCO Shipping Specialised Carriers or their shipping agents were formerly required to provide a copy of the Bill of Lading to Qingdao Port’s system as a supporting document for the cargo release procedure.

The carrier collaborated with GSBN and issued the first eBL for bulk cargo via the GSBN platform.

Customers are able to use the platform to go through an end-to-end digital process, lowering the average time for freight discharging from the vessel to departing the terminal by more than 24 hours.

This is the first time these two GSBN methods have been combined to provide a more efficient procedure.

Furthermore, COSCO Shipping Specialised Carriers used structured data from an IQAX-issued eBL to connect with the paperless Cargo Release system and seamlessly integrate every step involved at Qingdao Port, from customs clearance through appointment and release.
