Gas leak kills five in Karachi Port

Unconfirmed reports suggest that a chemical gas leak from a container in Karachi Port led to five deaths with many injured on 16 February 2020. The source of the leak and the type of gas are not known at the time of publication.

Three women and two men are reportedly dead, while the hospitals in the region were overwhelmed with injured people, who faced severe breathing problems.

Container News understands that police have warned there may be more leaking boxes and have launched a search of the East and West Wharf areas, according to the same reports.

Container News has contacted the Port of Karachi, but there had been no response at the time of writing.
