In just ten years, the value of goods exported by Vietnam has gone from US$88.76 billion to US$337.09 billion in 2021.
At the beginning of this ten-year journey, Gebrüder Weiss opened two of its own locations in the Southeast Asian country, one in the financial center of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and the other 1,600 kilometers further north in the capital Hanoi.
“The economic environment in Vietnam has improved steadily since we opened our first location there. The country’s road and port infrastructure has been expanded, while demand for consumer and industrial goods is rising among the exceptionally young population,” said Cristian Predan, manager of the South-East Asia area at Gebrüder Weiss.
Exports include products from the electronics, mechanical engineering, aviation, chemical and food industries. Gebrüder Weiss mainly transports these goods to its customers in Singapore, South Korea, Europe, and the United States.
It is noteworthy that the Austrian freight forwarding company increased the number of air and sea freight shipments by about 30% on an annual basis in 2021.
In Vietnam, Gebrüder Weiss is involved in a variety of activities, including spare parts logistics of European mechanical engineering companies and the operation of a logistics warehouse for an international furniture manufacturer, where it is also responsible for collection, packaging, labeling and customs clearance.
East Asia and Oceania network of the company includes locations in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and New Zealand.
Gebrüder Weiss noted it explores the potential benefits of expanding the network to neighboring Vietnam countries, while it also organises cross-border land transport to Cambodia and domestic sea transports from the south to the north of the country.
