GEODIS, Volvo partner on fully electric truck trial in Australia

GEODIS has partnered with Volvo Australia to test the first Fully Electric (FE) version truck for freight forwarding in Australia.

The global transportation company decided to collaborate with Volvo Australia to test electric trucks for freight transportation in a strategic partnership, according to which Volvo will provide its FE model trucks, powered by both solar energy and energy-efficient charging systems.

This project is part of a coordinated effort of GEODIS to provide its customers with sustainable delivery solutions to supplement existing freight forwarding services in the local market, according to a company’s announcement.

GEODIS will analyse aspects such as driving range and compatibility for heavy loads of up to 7,500 kg to be delivered across 200-kilometre ranges inside metropolitan regions using FE vehicles as part of the trial program before committing to a larger-scale roll-out across its fleet in Australia.

“Bringing low-carbon and more circular transport solutions have always been a key priority for us, and this strategic partnership is one of the many steps that we are taking to build a more energy-efficient transport ecosystem for the market,” noted Tim Camilleri, electromobility manager at Volvo Group Australia.
