Global Ports enhances handling equipment fleet of FCT and PLP

The largest Russian container terminal operator, Global Ports Group has purchased 32 new terminal tractors and 40 semi-trailers for its First Container Terminal (FCT) and Petrolesport (PLP), which are located in the Great Port of St. Petersburg.

This new equipment will increase the efficiency and speed of cargo handling at both terminals’ container storage yards and berths, according to an announcement.

FCT has received 15 Terberg YT193 tractors and 16 Seacom semi-trailers with a capacity of 60 tonnes, while Kalmar T2 tractors and 24 Seacom semi-trailers with a capacity of 40 and 60 tonnes have been purchased for PLP.

Global Ports said the vehicles will be used to handle 20, 40 and 45-foot containers, supporting the operations of rubber tyred gantry (RTG) and rail mounted gantry (RMG) cranes, as well as ship to shore (STS) cranes.

The new equipment is easily manoeuvered and performs well in both high and low temperatures, and has already proven its performance during the heat in St. Petersburg in June, according to Global Ports.
