Global Ports Group, part of Delo Group, Russia’s major operator of container terminals, has relocated more than 25 units of heavy-duty port equipment from its North-Western terminals to Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company (VSC) in Russia’s Far East in the past year, increasing VSC’s cargo handling fleet by 20%.
Its proportion of Russian maritime container handling volume climbed from 35% in 2021 to 51% in 2022, reaching 53% in the first five months of 2023.
Two reach stackers with a lifting capability of 45 tonnes each, three RTG cranes, and eight straddle carriers are among the equipment transferred to VSC in the first half of 2023. In addition, Global Ports transferred 15 tractors and semi-trailers to VSC in 2022.
According to the statement, the movement of equipment complements Global Ports’ investment programme at VSC and aims to improve the terminal’s efficiency, including newly purchased high-capacity loaders and cranes.
VSC brought two new 144-ton Liebherr mobile harbour cranes, as well as two extra heavy-duty reach stackers, into operation in April 2023. VSC will get 9 RTG and RMG container cranes from ZPMC between 2023 and 2024. Global Ports terminals in the Baltic basin are also fully equipped to handle containerised and bulk cargoes of both existing and forecasted volumes.
Furthermore, Global Ports has been conducting a large investment project to enhance the VSC terminal through the construction of neighbouring land parcels totalling 470,000 m² from September 2022.
The company intends to construct two container docks, cargo storage complexes, and a new high-capacity railway front. The project’s phased implementation will allow the terminal’s throughput capacity to be increased from 700,000 TEUs to 1.7 million TEUs per year by the mid-2030s.
