The previously announced acquisition by the Gothenburg Port Authority of an area of 108,000 m² in Arendal in the Swedish port has been officially completed.
The purpose of the acquisition is to enable a future relocation of Stena Line’s Denmark and Germany terminals and to consolidate the port’s ferry and ro-ro traffic to the outer port area Arendal, according to a statement.
“Given the infrastructure that is connected to Arendal, as well as the existing ro-ro, container and transshipment terminals in the area, the ongoing expansion of warehousing and not least the proximity to the automotive industry, there is a clear logic in continuing to consolidate traffic here,” said Elvir Dzanic, Gothenburg Port Authority chief executive.
The purchase consists of the newly formed property Arendal 764: 728, and in total comprises 108,000 m² of land, including office and industrial buildings of 49,000 m², a water area of 69,000 m² and a quay. The total property value is estimated at around US$47 million.
“We are very happy to now be able to implement this deal, which both strengthens Arendal’s connection to the Nordic region’s largest port and makes the water available to the people of Gothenburg,” said P-G Persson, chief executive at Platzer.
“We look forward to continuing to work together with the port and its players so that it will continue to be the Nordic region’s leading logistics hub with a focus on sustainable mobility solutions on both road and water,” he added.
Through this acquisition, another part is put into implementation for the future relocation of Stena Line’s Denmark and Germany terminals to Arendal.
The idea is that Stena Line, which has previously signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gothenburg Port Authority, will be able to sign a 25-year lease agreement in Arendal no later than 1 January 2027.
