Hamburg and Valencia ports to cooperate on decarbonisation and digitalisation

The presidents of the port authorities of Valencia, and Hamburg, Aurelio Martínez and Jens Meier, respectively, have held a meeting, agreeing to collaborate on key areas for the port system such as the fight against climate change and decarbonisation, the use of renewable energy, digital transformation, mobility and equality plans.

Jens Meier, who is also the vice-president of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), and Aurelio Martínez have shown their mutual will to work together on the challenges of maritime transport and the logistics sector with an intention to carry out initiatives aimed at positioning their enclosures as benchmarks in sustainability and digitalisation, advancing in the 2030 commitments of the European agenda.

In particular, these initiatives include the installation of photovoltaic or wind energy, the construction of the electrical substation or the hydrogen projects, among others, for the achievement of zero-carbon emissions.

The meeting has also been conducted to analyse the work being carried out through the IAPH in areas where the two ports are actively involved, such as energy, resilience or data, or the progress of the World Ports Climate Action Program of which they form part together with other ten ports.
