Hannibal launches intermodal service connecting Italy with the Netherlands

Hannibal, Contship Group’s Multimodal Transport Operator (MTO), has launched a new intermodal service in partnership with A2B-online, linking Melzo in Italy with Moerdijk in the Netherlands.

This service will initially operate three weekly round trips, with plans to increase to four by April 2025. Rail operations within Italy will be managed by Oceanogate, another Contship Group company.

“This connection represents a significant step in strengthening commercial ties between
the Netherlands and Italy, perfectly aligning with our objective of optimizing our
customers’ supply chains,” commented Andrea Spagnuolo, Sales & Business Development Manager at Contship.

The Moerdijk terminal was strategically chosen for its multimodal capabilities, located within a port featuring over 40 km of roads and 35 km of rail tracks. Its prime location also facilitates further connections to various destinations in the United Kingdom.

“With the launch of this new service, we provide our customers with a reliable, efficient,
and sustainable solution for transport between the Netherlands and Italy,” stated Michael
van Keulen, Managing Director of A2B-online Container B.V.

This service offers quick transit times and provides a more sustainable alternative to road transport, reducing CO2 emissions.
