Hannibal’s new intra-Italian service launched in April

Hannibal commenced a new intra-Italian railway service connecting the HHLA PLT terminal in Trieste to the Contship Italia Group’s Rail Hub Milano Melzo on 18 April.

This new train service will operate as an open rail system for semi-trailers, marine containers, and other equipment.

Initially, the intermodal link will run three times per week, with plans to extend to daily connections by the end of 2023.

The new service joins the nearly 45 weekly connections offered on the Italian territory and to Northern Europe via Hannibal and its partners’ network.

Oceanogate, a Contship Italia group firm, is in charge of rail traction. The project was created in partnership with Francesco Parisi Casa di Spedizioni and Alpe Adria, which will handle the operational and commercial contact with the Trieste Terminal’s stakeholders.

“The new link is strategic as it allows us to offer greater capacity for all traffic from/to Turkey. In fact, over 60% of Turkey’s import/export flows pass through the Trieste Terminal and thanks to this connection we will better integrate maritime and continental flows,” said Cristiano Pieragnolo, managing director of Hannibal.
