Hapag-Lloyd applies GRI from Asia to Latin America and Caribbean

Hapag-Lloyd said that a General Rate Increase (GRI) will apply to shipments from Asia to the West and East Coasts of South America, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, starting 15 April and 28 April for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

This GRI applies to cargo in 20′ and 40′ dry containers, including high cube and non-operative reefer containers, as follows:

  • 20′ Dry Container: US$500
  • 40′ Dry Container: US$1,000
  • 40′ High Cube Container: US$1,000
  • 40’ Non-operative Reefer Container: US$1,000

The GRI will remain in effect until further notice.



The geographical scope includes countries in Asia (China, Macau, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Laos and Brunei) and destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean (Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Chile, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands). The East Coast of South America covers the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay.
