Hapag-Lloyd enhances Africa service portfolio

Hapag-Lloyd has announced the launch of a new China-Kenya-Express (CKX) service. The service is expected to launch in the week starting 17 August.

The German carrier is a slot charterer on the service, which runs with seven ships, a Hapag-Lloyd spokesperson told Container News. Evergreen operates the four vessels, COSCO has deployed two and X-Press Feeders operates one boxship.

The first westbound voyage from Shanghai will be MV Ital Melodia 152W on 19 August and the first eastbound sailing ex-Mombasa MV Ever Diadem 150E on 23 August.

CKX service port rotation: Shanghai – Ningbo – Shekou – Singapore – Port Kelang – Colombo – Mombasa – Colombo – Port Kelang – Singapore – Shanghai

The new service is expected to strengthen the company’s Africa network, offering weekly direct sailings between Chinese Key Ports and Mombasa (Kenya).

“The CKX will offer the most competitive transit times and excellent connectivity to our Global Mainline Network via hub ports such as Singapore, Port Kelang and Colombo,” said Hapag-Lloyd in its announcement.
