Hapag-Lloyd announces rate adjustments for Med shipments

Hapag-Lloyd announced the following upcoming adjustments to ocean freight rates and surcharges for shipments from the Mediterranean to various destinations.

The first one is a rate increase from the West Mediterranean to Latin America. Effective for sailings from 1 April 2025, Hapag-Lloyd’s FAK (Freight All Kinds) rates from Italian ports to South America West Coast, Central America, and the Caribbean will increase as follows:

    • 20′ Container (Standard / HC / Reefer / Special): €200 (US$215)
    • 40′ Container (Standard / HC / Reefer / Special): €300 (US$325)

These rates will remain valid until further notice and are subject to applicable surcharges.

Hapag-Lloyd’s second move is a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) from Mediterranean to the United States, Canada and Mexico. This PSS will apply to shipments from Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Southern France to the United States, Canada, and Mexico for all containers gated in from 5 April 2025 until further notice. The surcharge details are:

  • 20′ Container: US$550
  • 40′ Container: US$750
