Hapag Lloyd to increase East Africa charges

The German liner operator Hapag Lloyd has published fresh General Rate Increases (GRI) that will be applied to shipments with destination to East Africa and will take effect on 15 September.

Particularly, the Hamburg-based carrier will set a GRI of US$300 per 20′ and US$600 per 40′ standard container to the following sailings.

Firstly, the GRI will be implemented from Yemen, Jordan and Saudi Arabia to the African East Coast and specifically the ports of Kenya and Tanzania.

Furthermore, Hapag-Lloyd will apply the aforementioned GRI to cargoes transported from the ports of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan and Qatar in the Arabian Gulf to Kenya and Tanzania.

Last but not least, the German company will impose the general rate increase on the same East African destinations, from Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives of the Indian Subcontinent.
