Hapag-Lloyd to provide stable space for Hankook tyres until 2024

South Korea’s largest tyre manufacturer, Hankook, has secured stable export space for its tyres for the next three years through a deal with the German container carrier Hapag-Lloyd.

In particular, under the agreement, Hapag-Lloyd will provide Hankook Tire & Technology with a stable supply of shipping containers as well as sustainable logistics services from 2022 to 2024.

The global port congestion and record high freight rates, caused by global shortage of containers, have led Hankook to sign a long-term contract with Hapag-Lloyd, while the two companies are cooperating for approximately 20 years.

The signing ceremony took place at Hankook Tire headquarters Technoplex on 7 December. The agreement was signed in presence of Sooil Lee, CEO of Hankook Tire & Technology, Jongho Park, Chief Administrative Officer of Hankook Tire & Technology, Hans Schaefer, President of Hapag-Lloyd Asia Regional Headquarters, and Minkyu Choi, President of Hapag-Lloyd Korea.

“We are delighted to partner with Hapag-Lloyd in this long-term agreement that will help enhance Hankook’s export capacity and stabilise our global supply chain amid a volatile environment,” noted Sooil Lee, President and CEO of Hankook Tire & Technology. “We believe this strategic cooperation will ensure a resilient ecosystem which will further fortify our global competency especially in times of uncertainty.”
