Hapag-Lloyd updates its East–Mediterranean Express service

Hapag-Lloyd will enhance its North Europe-Mediterranean network by restructuring the East–Mediterranean Express Service (EME).

The German company has announced the addition of the ports of Bremerhaven, Limassol, Ashdod and Haifa to the weekly rotation of the service, from mid-January 2021.

As a result, the new EME service’s port rotation will be: London Gateway – Rotterdam – Bremerhaven – Hamburg – Antwerp – Limassol – Ashdod – Alexandria – Haifa – Mersin – London Gateway.

The Hamburg-based line will deploy a sixth vessel on the service in order to “ensure high schedule reliability,” from the new year.

“The EME will also offer more competitive transit times and excellent connectivity to our Global Mainline Network via Hapag-Lloyd hub ports,” said the European carrier in its announcement.

The first southbound voyage from London Gateway will start on 14 January 2021 and the first northbound voyage leaves the port of Limassol on 3 February.

Hapag-Lloyd has not disclosed the vessel names and voyage numbers, but they are expected to be announced soon.
