Hong Kong’s port and terminal operator Modern Terminals has announced that Hapag-Lloyd’s vessel Manzanillo Express arrived in Hong Kong from Chile with a record number of containers carrying cherries from the Latin American country.
Manzanillo Express is deployed on Hapag-Lloyd’s seasonal Cherry Express service linking Hong Kong with the port of Valparaiso in Chile.
According to Modern Terminals, Hong Kong handled 1,222 active reefer boxes on 31 December, the highest number of Chilean cherry containers ever discharged at the port.
“We call Hong Kong with our Cherry Express service because we know we can trust the reliable and efficient service at the terminals in Hong Kong. Our customers appreciate the HOT BOX arrangement in Hong Kong, which allows our customers to pick up the container immediately after it has been offloaded from the vessel,” commented Axel von Bloh, general manager of Hapag-Lloyd’s Hong Kong office.
The seasonal service launched in November and will continue until February.
“This service enables the cherry containers to be transported across the boundary and into consumer markets all over South China in only a few hours after landing in Hong Kong,” said Axel von Bloh.
