Hapag-Lloyd’s vessel interrupted voyage after Covid-19 outbreak

Hapag-Lloyd’s 12,600TEU container ship, Rome Express was diverted to Ensenada, Mexico due to several positive test results for Covid-19 of the vessel’s crew.

The boxship was en route to the port of Pusan in Korea from Cartagena, Colombia, when five crew members tested positive for the coronavirus. In consequence, Rome Express was diverted to the port of Ensenada, where three of the five crew have been admitted to a hospital while the remaining two are in quarantine, according to the latest update from Hapag-Lloyd.

The 2010-built Rome Express is deployed on THE Alliance’s Transpacific East Coast Loop (EC2) service and the German carrier announced that its customers’ cargo planning might be affected by the unexpected schedule changes.

The vessel will remain at the Mexican port until the alternate crew is tested and cleared for boarding. Once they are on board, Rome Express will resume her voyage to Pusan, said Hapag-Lloyd.
