HAROPA PORT breaks its annual container record

HAROPA PORT, consisting of the ports of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris, has marked a significant growth in container traffic during 2021, surpassing 3 million TEU in a single year for the first time in its history.

The French port complex handled 3.07 million last year, which translates to an increase of 28% compared to 2020. At the same time, overall maritime traffic in the French ports of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris reached 84 million tonnes, representing a 12% year-on-year growth. Meanwhile, inland traffic, including full and empty containers, registered a rise of 15% compared to 2020.

Additionally, HAROPA PORT’s transshipment sector achieved a sharp increase of 79% year-on-year, reaching 843,000 TEU, surpassing the previous record of 770,000 TEU, set in 2017.

HAROPA PORT made investments of US$221.8 million (€197 million) in 2021 and plans to invest US$288.3 million (€256 million) during the current year, with 16% of them allocated to supporting the energy transition.

The port complex is preparing to address several challenges, “ensuring that its high level of activity is maintained over the long term, continuing its development in the direction of a new and sustainable business model, and supporting the energy transition,” according to a port official.
