This week, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) achieved a significant milestone in enhancing the safety and efficiency of truck handling at its Hamburg container terminals.
Through its innovation unit, HHLA Next, the German operator has developed the passify app, a cutting-edge product progressively replacing the conventional trucker card. The transition to passify at Container Terminal Tollerort has started, marking the commencement of the exclusive use of the passify app by initial truck drivers for access. The implementation of this system will unfold gradually across the terminal.
“We have already been running the first successful tests with Passify at our terminals in Hamburg since summer 2023. The first trucking companies have already been able to test the application and provide their feedback. The switch to Passify that has begun at CTT will significantly increase security at our facilities in Hamburg. Thanks to Passify, we are taking another important step towards digitalising our terminal handling,” stated Maren Baumgarten, responsible for the project at HHLA.
The Passify app brings a significant advantage in terms of security. Previously, truck drivers relied on physical plastic trucker cards for terminal access. With passify, drivers undergo clear identification by authenticating themselves through the app. Passify not only ensures the required standards for security and data protection but also meets all the criteria of the globally recognized ISPS code.
Furthermore, passify is set to be seamlessly integrated into HHLA’s gate processes, contributing to the ongoing digitalization of terminal operations. This system will guide truck drivers throughout the entire handling process. Looking ahead, the app will evolve to offer additional functionalities for drivers, such as a mobile self-service terminal, consolidating all the necessary information and documents for terminal access in a central application.

After its successful introduction at CTT, the passify app will be gradually implemented at HHLA’s container terminals Altenwerder and Burchardkai in the coming months.
