Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) has received the last battery-powered Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) in December, continuing the electrification of its climate-neutral container handling facility.
[s2If is_user_logged_in()]This was the 16th new AGV with lithium-ion battery drive that began operating at CTA in 2020, while the number of environmentally friendly vehicles in Altenwerder now exceeds 60 units, which means that 66% of the AGV fleet in use is already electrified.
By the end of 2022, all of the nearly 100 driverless container transporters are to be converted to the fast-charging battery drive, according to the company’s announcement.
In addition to the 16 new battery AGVs, six more energy charging stations were also put into operation last year, which brings the number of charging stations at CTA to 13, with five more expected to be added next year.
With the expansion of the climate-friendly energy supply, HHLA said it is ensuring the operation of its growing battery-powered AGV fleet at CTA, as the vehicles independently drive to the charging stations as needed and recharge their batteries with green electricity.
The conversion of the AGV fleet at CTA, supported by Hamburg’s Ministry for Environment, Climate, Energy and Agriculture with support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the “Energiewende in Unternehmen” subsidy programme, is an important component of HHLA’s sustainability strategy.
The ultimate goal of HHLA is to halve CO2 emissions by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality across the Group by 2040.[/s2If]
