At the grand opening of dronePORT Hamburg, HHLA Sky, a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), showcased its cutting-edge solutions for efficient drone operations in the city.
The dronePORT Hamburg, inaugurated by the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA), the Hamburg Police, and Hamburg Aviation, is the first European facility dedicated to unmanned aviation and mobile sensor technology.
“Automation is the key to efficient drone operations: HHLA Sky’s Integrated Control Center makes flights beyond visual range possible and drone operations safely scalable. We are delighted to be part of dronePORT with this technology and to offer our services here,” stated Matthias Gronstedt, managing director of HHLA Sky.
In addition, HHLA Sky provides drones for inspecting the Port of Hamburg and shipping lanes, as well as the technology for automated drone control and fleet management through its Integrated Control Center. This highly automated software enables long-distance drone flights without visual contact with the pilot, known as Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS).
According to a statement, it is ideal for inspecting infrastructure such as bridges, roads, and expansive areas. An operator in the control centre oversees these flights and can intervene if necessary, with the capacity to monitor multiple flights simultaneously. The Integrated Control Center can manage over 100 BVLOS-automated drone flights at once.
In addition to HHLA Sky, several other partners, including HPA, the police, LSBG, Beagle Systems, Flynex, ZAL, HAW, and EmQopter, showcased their products and projects, such as CITYAM and BLU-Space, at the dronePORT opening.
