HMM has entered into a partnership with Kakao Enterprise to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-based platform services to digitally transform its customer facing operations.
Kakao Enterprise is a unit of South Korean technology group Kakao, known for its KakaoTalk messaging app. The collaboration would see HMM and Kakao Enterprise developing chatbots and KakaoTalk (live chatting) systems for live contact with customers, among other things, through apps.
An HMM spokesperson told Container News the carrier will work with Kakao Enterprise to develop an IT-oriented workplace and undertake joint research into using AI and big data to digitalise its systems and to develop new growth engines.
HMM has been examining the possibility of co-operation with local technology companies to improve its customer service using digital mobile technologies, through an IT-oriented work environment.
Kakao Enterprise will introduce Kakao Work and Kakao iConnect, smart work solution tools for enterprises, this year, and will work with HMM to support digital innovation. The group’s KakaoTalk is already the dominant individual messaging platform in South Korea and it now aims to dominate the business platform through enterprise messenger and cloud services merged with AI.
HMM said that it will execute a long-term data-based sales strategy through securing and analysing industrial data based on Kakao Enterprise’s AI and big data technology.
HMM CEO Bae Jae-hoon said, “We are pursuing cutting-edge information technology at various angles, including digitalisation of logistics information. With digital innovation, we will fully improve our corporate constitution and actively promote customer service through pre-emptive international shipping and logistics services.”
