How to Pack Fragile Items When Moving

Almost every second person moved to a new place of residence at least once. Of these, almost one in three made an apartment move twice or even three times. At the same time, many note that the most stressful moment is the preparation of things for transportation. Some items are fragile, any impact or fall can lead to cracks, chips, and other unpleasant consequences.

Properly selected packaging, systematization of items, a large amount of stretch film, and adhesive tape are the necessary requirements to simplify the process of moving. A similar approach, which is used by the specialists of the packing company Houston, will keep all items intact, even fragile household appliances, lighting fixtures, or dishes. An immediate lifehack – you can not apply the same materials to all objects. Each category has its own type of packaging.

What can be classified as fragile objects

  • In the first place, of course, dishes: favorite coffee mugs, flower vases.
  • Interior items made of gypsum, ceramics, and other fragile materials, souvenirs, figurines – as a rule, there are too many of them in every house.
  • Lamps, chandeliers.
  • Mirrors and glass in any form, including furniture doors.
  • Household and office equipment.
  • Musical instruments.

Transportation rules

The first and, perhaps, most important, without which the guarantee of the safety of items in their original form is reduced to zero, is reliable packaging.

Here are the most common packaging options:

  • air-bubble film will not only help calm the nerves but also ensure the creation of a protective shell against shock and mechanical impact;
  • cardboard boxes and all their varieties will help you when moving to reduce the likelihood of damage;
  • bulk packaging, the so-called foam flakes, is used to securely and carefully fix fragile and valuable cargo in a box;
  • adhesive tapes, polyethylene, and paper, need no introduction;
  • Wrapping paper, in which you can either simply wrap an item and put it in a box, or use sheets of wrapping paper to wrap individual items inside the box, such as plates.

General principles of packaging

When packing items in a box, follow a simple rule – put heavier items on the bottom, and lighter items on top.

It is better to fill all the voids between objects inside the box with something shock-absorbing. To do this, you can use crumpled wrapping paper, bubble wrap, or a special filler.

Be sure to mark all boxes in advance, using either a special sticker or writing “fragile”. Duplicate the markings on all sides of the box so that your marks can be seen from any angle. And in general – try to sign all the boxes: when unpacking in a new place, you will definitely thank yourself.

A separate point is the correct transportation. All things in the car body must be fixed with belts and on moving parts – with soft pads and tape. To minimize the movement of objects, it is necessary to put specialized or improvised stoppers on the floor of the body. So the boxes will reach their destination safely and sound.

Moving is not easy, especially moving with fragile items. We hope this article will help you save not only belongings but also nerve cells, and the move itself will become only a bright memory in your life!
