Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam to receive new quay cranes from Sany Europe

Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam (ECT) and Sany Europe, part of Sany Heavy Industries of Changsha, China, signed a contract for the construction and delivery of three new quay cranes with an option for four more.

The new cranes, which will be built in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, China, are part of an extensive investment programme in the ECT Delta terminal, which includes hybrid automated guided vehicles, hybrid straddle carriers and multi-trailer tractors.

“With these investments in the ECT Delta terminal, the terminal is being prepared to continue to strengthen its position as one of the most important container terminals in Europe,” said the global port operator Hutchison Ports.

Although this is the first time that Sany Heavy Industries will supply ECT with cranes, the Chinese port equipment manufacturer has built cranes for other terminals within the Hutchison Ports group.

The cranes, which will be ECT’s largest cranes, are fully remote controlled and have an outreach of more than 25 container rows.
