ILWU, ICTSI Oregon reach agreement to settle all legal disputes

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and ICTSI Oregon have jointly announced the resolution of all legal disputes.

According to a statement, this settlement brings an end to ICTSI’s claims against ILWU in the prolonged litigation known as ICTSI Oregon, Inc. v. International Longshore and Warehouse Union, et al., Case No. 3:12-cv-1058-SI, which was pending in the United States District Court for the District of Oregon.

Following a jury’s determination of unlawful labour practices by ILWU and ILWU Local 8, the litigation, originally scheduled for a retrial on damages, was halted due to the bankruptcy filings of ILWU and Local 8 in September and October 2023, respectively.

Under the settlement terms, ICTSI will receive a payment of US$20.5 million.

Additionally, the ILWU settlement was reached through mediation sessions during ILWU’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, which will be voluntarily dismissed as part of the settlement agreement.
