Japanese corporation partners with Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center

The trading and business investment company Sumitomo Corporation (SC) and Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping have come into an agreement for long-term collaboration in order to develop zero-carbon technologies for the shipping industry.

As a strategic partner to the independent research and development center, SC’s experts will focus on research and development projects in the Center’s portfolio and will investigate methodologies for safe and sustainable maritime fuel solutions, such as the adoption of new technology and fuels.

The SC joining to the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center comes two weeks after the signing of a partnership agreement between bp and the Copenhagen-based Center.

Tokyo-headquartered Sumitomo Corporation will provide guidance to the Center Advisory Board for transition strategies and further development of the independent research and development Center and its activities.

In welcoming Sumitomo Corporation to the Center, CEO Bo Cerup-Simonsen said that with a shared commitment to contribute to a carbon-free world through energy and technology innovation, “we see great potential in exploring alternative fuel pathways for shipping together.”
