The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) has assisted in the transportation of hundreds of specialised liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks through the port’s Blount Island Marine Terminal.
Half of the tanks will be utilised to temporarily enhance storage at Eagle LNG Partners LLC’s Jacksonville LNG bunker plant at the Talleyrand Marine Terminal, while the other half will be used to export LNG to the Caribbean and abroad.
The tanks on their way to the Caribbean represent the company’s efforts towards replacing petroleum with natural gas for power generation on numerous islands, including Aruba.
It also represents progress following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Aruban officials and JAXPORT to strengthen economic ties.
“As the global fleet of LNG-powered maritime vessels increases, the demand for LNG bunkering and larger LNG bunkers is growing. Also, given recent world events, Eagle LNG is building upon shipments of ISO containers of LNG that we have already transferred from JAXPORT to Europe” stated Tim Robertson, Eagle LNG’s director of operations.
As demand for LNG grows, JAXPORT has acted as a hub for LNG expansion and development for the shipping industry, and it is the only East Coast port in the United States to offer on-dock and near-dock LNG fuelling capabilities.
JF Moran, a logistics and freight forwarding business, managed the ISO tanks’ relocation to JAXPORT, with terminal operator SSA Atlantic providing stevedoring services. Patriot Logistics, a local tank transportation company, delivered the tanks to Eagle LNG’s Maxville LNG Facility in North Jacksonville.
“This shipment is representative of the complete supply chain, beginning with the manufacturer overseas, followed by JF Moran providing the client with visibility on the shipment, resulting in the goods arriving at JAXPORT,” stated JF Moran CEO and president Betty Robson
