The Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT), operating between the Arabian Peninsula and Africa – which is a key partner of Jeddah Islamic Port and operator of the North Container Terminal, has purchased three ship-to-shore (STS) cranes to boost operational efficiency at terminal.
This expansion comes under the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) and its broader goals are to develop the country’s marine industry into a worldwide logistics powerhouse with high efficiency and increased international commerce in line with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS).
With the addition of the latest batch of heavy-duty equipment, Jeddah Islamic Port’s North Container Terminal now has 24 state-of-the-art cranes, fulfilling a critical component of the approximately US$1,6 billion concession agreement between the terminal operator and the national maritime regulator that seeks to upgrade the facility’s installed capacity to 8.8 million TEUs.
