Kalmar closes new deals in terminals around the globe

Kalmar has announced new agreements with logistic companies and terminal operators worldwide in order to equip their facilities with new equipment.

[s2If is_user_logged_in()]The Finnish manufacturer has signed a deal to supply Maritime Transport Ltd. (Maritime) with two next-generation Kalmar straddle carriers for its Birmingham Intermodal Freight Terminal (BIFT) in Tamworth, central England.

The order was booked in the first quarter of 2021 by Cargotec, Kalmar’s parent company, and it includes a 10-year Kalmar Complete Care service agreement effective from the date of delivery of the machines, which is scheduled for the third quarter of the year.

The Kalmar Complete Care agreement, covers the new straddle carriers and the Eco Reachstackers, and provides Maritime with preventive and corrective maintenance services.

Maritime is a UK-based intermodal logistics company with a network of over 40 depots across the UK. The company’s network of port and inland rail terminals allows it to offer intermodal solutions integrated with road to provide complete supply chain coverage.

In addition, Kalmar has concluded an agreement with Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) in Australia to supply a total of six Kalmar AutoShuttles™ for use at the Port of Melbourne’s Webb Dock East.

VICT expects to receive the new equipment in the last quarter of 2021, while the order was booked in Cargotec’s 2021 Q1 order intake.

VICT is Australia’s first fully automated container terminal and is owned by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. The 35hectare terminal has a design capacity of over 1 million TEU and is the only terminal in Melbourne capable of handling the largest container vessels.

VICT’s automated operations are powered by the Kalmar One Automation System – a complete end-to-end system that combines automated equipment with a pre-integrated and tested software solution.

Kalmar is also responsible for the ongoing maintenance and support of the automated container handling software solution operating at VICT as well as related technical support, as in 2020, VICT signed a three-year Kalmar Parts Care agreement.

The six new Kalmar AutoShuttles, which will be fully erected and tested prior to delivery to ensure rapid, smooth integration into the terminal’s automated operations, will join the existing fleet of 11 as part of a capacity expansion programme at VICT.

Moreover, SSA Marine has made two separate orders from the port equipment supplier for a total of 28 Kalmar Ottawa T2 terminal tractors.

The first agreement is for 14 machines to be operated at the Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT) in Colón, Panama and the second, completed via Kalmar’s local partner Tracsa, is for 14 machines to be operated by SSA Mexico in the Port of Manzanillo in Colima, Mexico.

Both orders were booked in Cargotec’s 2021 Q1 order intake, with delivery scheduled to take place during the third quarter of the current year.

SSA Marine has marine terminal and rail yard operations in more than 250 locations across the world and the new machines will be used to transport containers from the quay to the yard at MIT and Colima, both of which are RTG terminals.

SSA Marine, which already owns and operates 36 Kalmar Ottawa T2 terminal tractors, 24 at Colima, and 12 at MIT, is in the process of gradually adding more terminal tractors to its fleet.
