Kalmar will commence production of electric reachstackers and Essential forklift trucks at its Shanghai manufacturing facility.
The production launch was honoured on 6 December with a themed ‘Electrify & Expand’ event attended by customers and dealer representatives.
Kalmar’s Shanghai facility opened in 2005 and produces a variety of high-end cargo handling equipment such as reachstackers, empty container handlers and terminal tractors.
The facility is located at Shanghai’s south-eastern tip, near one of the world’s busiest ports, and serves clients in Asia-Pacific, Africa, South America, Oceania, and the Middle East.
“This is an important step for Kalmar as it will help us to meet the growing demand for sustainable electrically powered equipment both in China and around the world. With this step, we are electrifying and expanding our global delivery capability. Furthermore, commencing production of our Essential forklift trucks in Shanghai demonstrates our commitment to further growing the plant, which is a vital part of our global manufacturing network, and reducing lead times and freight costs for customers,” stated Alf-Gunnar Karlgren, VP, Counter Balanced, Kalmar.
The Kalmar electric reachstacker with lifting capabilities of up to 45 tonnes increases cargo handling operations’ eco-efficiency while allowing clients to retain the greatest standards of productivity and safety.
The reachstacker is suitable for a wide range of applications, including container handling, intermodal and trimodal operations, and industrial heavy lifting, and is available with several modular battery options and charging methods.
The Kalmar Essential forklift truck is based on a dependable and tough foundation designed for the most demanding tasks. Forklift trucks with lifting capabilities ranging from 10 to 18 tonnes are suitable for moving containers, steel, and wood. The model was a popular option among Kalmar dealers, and the first machines produced in the Shanghai facility are scheduled to be delivered to customers across the region.
