The Finnish cargo handling equipment manufacturer Kalmar has secured a deal with the operating arm of the paper producer APRIL Group, PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (PT RAPP), to provide new equipment for the Group’s container terminal at the Port of Buatan in Indonesia.
The order comprises two new-generation zero-emission Rubber-Tyred Gantry cranes (RTG), two Essential Empty Container Handlers and an Essential Reachstacker.
The machines which were booked in the third-quarter order intake of Cargotec, the mother company of Kalmar, are expected to be delivered to the Indonesian terminal by the third quarter of 2022.
The Asia Pacific Resources International Holdings Ltd (APRIL) Group which operates a pulp and paper mill in Riau Province on the Indonesian island of Sumatra with an annual production capacity of 2.8 million tonnes of pulp and 1.15 million tonnes of paper, has invested significantly in infrastructure for the trade of its product with new facilities such as its container terminal in the Port of Buatan.
The two new RTG cranes that are fully powered by electric power and eliminate the need for hydraulic oil will join the already existing four Kalmar SmartPower RTG cranes that were delivered in the port in 2018 and 2019. APRIL’s fleet also includes Kalmar terminal tractors, empty container handlers and reachstackers.
Furthermore, according to the manufacturing company, its Essential Range reachstackers and the empty container handlers feature service points to make maintenance quicker and easier, the ergonomically designed Essential cabin and a range of characteristics to increase the safety of customer operations.
