Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has concluded an agreement with TCEEGE Konteyner Terminal İşletmeleri A.Ş. (TCEEGE) in Turkey to supply two Kalmar diesel-electric rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes. The order was booked in Cargotec’s 2020 first quarter order intake with delivery and handover scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2020.
TCEEGE is located 55km from the city of Izmir on the west coast of Turkey. The terminal has an annual capacity of 500,000TEU and has recently been purchased by the Turkish company Ege Gubre from the Spanish company Grup Maritim TCB.
Kalmar says its new RTG combines the best of diesel and electric technology for fuel savings, low emissions and easy maintenance. At 1,000 hours, it has one of the longest maintenance intervals in the industry and its modular design makes it easy to tailor to customer-specific requirements, according to Kalmar.
The two RTGs delivered to TCEEGE will each be equipped with a vavriable speed generator (VSG), which enables even greater fuel economy and lower emissions by automatically optimising RPM according to the required power.
“We are keen to bring new equipment online as quickly as possible, so the short delivery lead time was also an important factor in our decision,” Mehmet Aydiner, Port Technical Manager, TCEEGE commented.
