Kalmar to provide Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam with ten straddle carriers

Kalmar, a part of Cargotec, has finalized an agreement to provide Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam with ten straddle carriers, comprising two fully electric and eight hybrid models, for its ECT Delta terminal.

This order was recorded in Cargotec’s order intake for the first quarter of 2024, with delivery scheduled for the fourth quarter of the same year.

Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam operates two container terminals along the North Sea coast of Rotterdam, capable of accommodating the latest ultra-large container vessels without any limitations.

At the ECT Delta terminal, the fleet of straddle carriers plays a crucial role in loading and unloading trucks on the land side. The terminal already incorporates several Kalmar straddle carriers into its operations.

These new straddle carriers are part of ECT’s fleet renewal initiative, aligning with their objective to achieve emission-free operations at the ECT Delta and ECT Euromax terminals by 2035. As part of this effort, ECT will test two different battery technologies in the electric straddle carriers.

Furthermore, the order includes Kalmar Insight coverage for all machines, a performance management tool that transforms data into actionable insights. The Kalmar Insight Energy Module offers visibility into battery charge status, energy utilization, and key performance indicators related to charging for electrically powered machines.

“We are delighted to continue our collaboration with ECT and support their transition to more sustainable operations with our eco-efficient straddle carrier technology. Our flexible battery technology offering allows customers to select the option that best fits their operational needs instead of settling for a one-size-fits-all solution when electrifying their equipment fleets. This third order for our fully electric straddle carrier demonstrates the strong market confidence in our eco-efficient solution,” stated Karri Keskinen, head of Global Sales, Horizontal Transportation, Kalmar.
