Finnish port equipment company Kalmar has received an order from Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) for four diesel-electric straddle carriers.
The order was booked in the 2021 Q4 order intake of Cargotec, Kalmar’s mother company, and is scheduled to be completed and delivered at the Caribbean terminal during next year’s third quarter.
Established in 2015, KFTL, which is part of Terminal Link, is located at the exit of the Panama Canal and the crossroads of the North/South and East/West lines.
Its equipment fleet already includes Kalmar straddle carriers, reachstackers, empty container handlers and terminal tractors.
The four Kalmar straddle carriers, projected to improve performance and reliability in the terminal’s operation, will be powered by a highly efficient diesel-electric power unit and feature excellent maneuverability, quiet operation and easy maintenance, according to a statement.
Steven Wilson, Head of Engineering at KFTL, commented, “We have been pleased with our Kalmar equipment in the past, and trust that the newer-generation straddle carriers will bring us high reliability and improved efficiency for our operations.”
