King Abdullah Port achieves significant container growth in 2021

King Abdullah Port has achieved a year-on-year growth of 31% in container throughput during 2021, reaching 2,813,920 TEU amid a global challenging market situation.

This performance reflects the Saudi Arabian port’s investments in its facilities and services. It introduced an international in-transit cargo service, supported by inland transportation between Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The launch of ‘Maersk Hub’ in partnership with Maersk, which is a non-bonded warehouse and Saudi Arabia’s first petrochemical hub, constitutes a milestone in the port’s efforts to serve the country’s petrochemical exporters and facilitate the storage of export cargo.

Commenting on King Abdullah Port’s performance in 2021, Jay New, the CEO of the port, said, “We are proud of our achievements during a challenging year, not only improving our track record on all fronts but also enhancing our contributions to the national economy.”

Owned by the Ports Development Company, King Abdullah Port is the region’s first port to be owned, developed, and operated by the private sector.
